Publishers within non-profit institutions perform a strategic role that
is crucial to meeting the goals of those institutions. Notwithstanding,
the mission-driven nature of non-profit publishing--coupled with the
fact that publishing is not generally the larger institutions'
principal remit--results in working environments and business models
that differ markedly from those of commercial publishers.
